Monsieur Clause

This is a invite I did for a xmas party that is tonight yay! the theme is mischief in Monte Carlo so its a dashing french santa in red skinny jeans and without the weight problem. Probably won't be anymore posts this side of the year, (can't believe 2009 is almost through) happy holidays and hopefully 2010 will be all kinds of amazing!

Crest

Another simpler version of this was recently used in a campaign I worked on in my day job (advertising) I still prefer this version with the swirly bits though... It's a quirky crest for Cape Town my home town.

Flat roof manor Cat

Just to prove that some of my illustrations do occasionally get used :) this is for Flat roof manor wines for their Facebook page.

Internet dating

This was a proposed book cover for a novel about internet dating. Since it didn't get bought I never got round to finishing it.

Pixel people

Yet more illies that didn't make it, it does seems that nothing I do actually ever happens but they do sometimes, I promise.

Another logo

This was for the same client as below (small world) also didn't make it... It was going to be for a world fair of sorts.

It's a small world

Shoo-wee I haven't posted anything in ages have been very busy with my day job and life in general so thought I'd put this one up. It's a logo I did for work but like a lot of work it never made it out into the (small) world.

tree of love

My friend Mel got married this past weekend. It was a lovely wedding with folk singers and cake and even a pinata, like I said lovely. So anyway this is the wedding card I made them. The word love is hidden in the tree.

a Poem

My talented friend Claudie Browne wrote this poem and I illustrated it. It was for an exhibition we had at work, called hidden talents and everyone had to exhibit something creative that they do outside of work. It was really great to see what everyone can do.

Another wedding invite

This one is for my friends Sam and Jacques there's a sam card and Jacques and the two slot together! their wedding is in October and I'm a bridesmaid. I've never been a bridesmaid before so am quite excited.

Little Magic Maya

I finally finished my god daughter (the cutest little girl in the known universe) birthday book, she turned two on the 14th of June so yes its a bit late, I’m not very good at sticking to deadlines outside of work. But its done, now all I have to do is get it printed and bound and yes its a true story.

Grrrr

This little lion was to illustrate a magazine article about game drives. Looks like the lion is running away scared rather than attacking. I guess its not easy to look cute and dangerous at the same time.

Another wedding invite

This is another wedding invite I did. This one for a Dutch/SA couple. I'm actually busy with a similar one now, another Dutch/SA couple.

You make me smile

This is one of the cards I did for Stuff for Africa, this one didn't make it through so you won't be seeing it in the shops. I think its pretty funny though. But I might be the only one...

Agency animals

I work in advertising, different agencies, same characters...

Bubble boy

I did this for Willowbridge centre, it's what they put in the window when a new shop is opening.

Mommy and me

Every now and then I get to draw pictures in work time, work being advertising. This is one of those.

Big in Japan.

These were done through a Japanese illustration agency for the Olympics last year. They were prizes in a Coke competition in Japan. An illustrator from each continent each did two designs, I was Africa.

Always the wedding invite designer, never the bride...

This is another wedding invite I did. This one was for an accountant and a pig farmer.

Monkey love.

These little monkeys were for Valentines day for woolies. They appeared on mugs and wrapping paper and stuff.

Spirograph flowers

I did this for my friend Lisa’s little baby, who is very cute by the way. The flowers were done with a spirograph at least I think that’s what you call those things. Used to love them when I was a kid so when I came across one recently I was very excited, they’re still super cool.

Bunnies, squirrels and bears.

These are a few of a range of cards I did for Stuff for Africa. On the back it says they were done by a Karen Vermulen. Its not true I did them the e just got lost along the way...

little brandy man

This little dude is one of a few illustrations I did for a book on brandy. I don't like really like brandy even though I'm afrikaans and I think I'm supposed to down brandy and cokes whilst watching the rugby, I don't like rugby either. Anway the book actually won an gourmand award in the drinks category.

Yum yum

a T-shirt I did for Mingo Lamberti’s Nature range. It’s the foodchain.

Dream a little dream, and then look up what it means.

These were for an Afrikaans dream dictionary I did for Lapa publishers. I had to illustrate
almost all the letters of the alphabet, just left out the silly ones like q and c that we don’t use
in Afrikaans....

I heart hearts.

This was actually part of a storyboard but like a lot of advertising ideas it never happened, I still like it though. And it did get me a discount at the super lovely Villa Rivercat in Goa, India. Its a hotel/artist retreat where a picture gets you a discount on a room. If you ever go to Goa do go stay at the Rivercat, its beautiful and let me know if my picture really did make it up on the wall.

This is a wedding invite I did for my friend Claude’s brother and his fiance, there’s a message hidden in it.
